#Space #trivia: every #LunarEclipse🔴 coincides with the time of a full moon🌕, by definition. The #Moon can only pass into Earth's shadow when it is opposite from the Sun, which is the same position as the full moon. However, there isn't always a lunar eclipse at every full moon because it's only when the orbits align, up to twice a year. There is no lunar eclipse when the full moon misses Earth's shadow passing above or below. Next lunar eclipse Mar 13-14, 2025. #astronomy #eclipse #science
"How to photograph a lunar eclipse and capture that rusty red Moon" by BBC Sky at Night Magazine @skyatnightmag - Camera with optics recommended, stability enhanced with a tripod, set exposure appropriately for low light levels. Late winter/early spring #weather doesn't look like it will cooperate with total #LunarEclipse viewing on Thursday evening & Friday morning in the western USA. And we knew for this time of year that was a possibility. Good luck finding breaks in the clouds if you can. #astronomy #Moon #eclipse
"Get ready to see a total lunar eclipse (or maybe not)" by @cosmiclog / @alanboyle - #LunarEclipse coming to N & S America on night of March 13-14. Will #weather let you see it? Chances aren't good in the western US - but give it a try. Webcasts will have live coverage too. https://cosmiclog.com/2025/03/12/get-ready-to-see-a-total-lunar-eclipse-or-maybe-not/ #astronomy #Moon #eclipse
NWS said 80% cloud cover in #Portland at #LunarEclipse time So this is better than expected. #astronomy #photography #Moon
But clouds came back in a hurry. Maybe #NWS was on to something.🤔 Typical #Portland / #PNW spring #weather. I got some pictures and I'll download them shortly. #LunarEclipse #astronomy #Moon🔴
This is the best image I got just as totality began and before the clouds swooped back in and ended the festivities early here. #Portland #PNW #LunarEclipse #astronomy #photography #Moon🔴
@AstroHawk Portland, wow, nice you even got to see it. Very nice capture!
@elaterite Yeah, it seemed unlikely. I almost didn't even check. But I listened to the advice I posted and tried anyway. 😀
