@karlemilnikka they have tried to get rid of their strong Google dependence for decades; but clearly they cannot come up with other sources of revenue that are even close to doing it. So, saying it "could have been" is strong.
@bagder It’s of course easy for me to say from the sideline, but with all projects I linked to (https://social.nikkasystems.com/@karlemilnikka/114127469613324001) I think it’s fair to say “could have”.
@karlemilnikka sure, if they would have shipped products that people wanted and paid for to a sufficient degree it would have worked - but they have not yet managed that
@bagder True. Pocket could’ve been the best read-it-later app, especially since it due to the browser integration could’ve offered features no other iOS browser could. But it’s 2025 and there isn’t even a Pocket integration in the iOS app. And they removed support for saving articles that require logging in.
They launched Mozilla VPN, but only for selected countries (why) and with unacceptable terms (why).
They’ve launched services, but they haven’t really tried selling services.
