A prayer I wrote yesterday for Martin Luther King, Jr. for the Prayers of the People at St. James Cathedral in #Chicago.

Our community is a bit unique in that at our 11am service, individual parishioners write the prayers of the people. Each week it is different depending on the intercessor but still reflects the structure within the Book of Common Prayer.

God of justice, we pray for a world beset by the three evils identified by your prophet Martin Luther King, Jr. - the evil of racism, the evil of poverty, and the evil of militarism. Teach us to love one another, teach us to provide for those in need, and teach us to practice peace in our hearts and with each other. Help us to understand the web of life that ties us together in a single garment of destiny. Help us build a beloved community where all are fed, all are protected, and all are celebrated.
