This sounds like a great guerrilla art project. I'd volunteer to help move the gear around to support powering some remote roadhouse sign for a few days or a month, before moving it to the next target. Unclear how long something like this would survive before being stolen...
In any case, I'm in SE CO, and have a light airplane. Can't cary much weight, but am fine landing on dirt roads, provided it's reasonably discreet, etc.
@lolcat Oh, cool, you have an ultralight or an experimental plane? What kind? I appreciate the idea of doing a guerilla lighting project. But that could get expensive leaving portable power supplies lying around for people to steal. I guess one could get creative and tap into locked service equipment entrances at the sites, but that's a little further than I care to go (not that I don't know how to do it). I just want to light abandoned places temporarily for a photo. :)
I fly a plane in the Light Sport Category. It's a high-wing, tricycle gear plane similar to a Cessna 150.
With full fuel (4hrs with reserve), I can cary myself and >=200lbs. The cargo compartment is limited to < 40lbs (balance and structural limits), so I strap heavy loads into the passenger seat. Could also remove that seat if necessary.
Agreed, leaving power in place is also probably beyond my reach, but it would be cool!
