I’m trying to create a list of good books that teenagers should be reading before they head off to college. There is a decline in literacy and readership amongst the younger people and we would do well to come up with some great books that are hella engaging for growing minds. I would love to put together a social media campaign across the web.

Please reply to this thread with links to books on Libby or Kindle, or to Goodreads or Bookwyrm reviews. If you were ever a teenage reader, what did you enjoy? What do you think is valuable literature to be exposed to before setting out on your own? #books #reading #literature #library #ReadingCommunity #WhatToRead #YALiterature #readers #readingclub #readersofmastodon #read2024 #read
It doesn’t have to be “serious” or even well regarded by critics. We just need books that might possibly hold the interest long enough to get through the initial chapter. Not to say classics aren’t a good fit, but this list can’t have snoozers. #books #reading #literature #library #ReadingCommunity #WhatToRead #YALiterature #readers #readingclub #readersofmastodon #read2024 #read
@suzannealdrich Sure, I'll contribute two books that I would say influenced me positively around that age: Matt Ruff's “Fool on the Hill” and Diana Wynne Jones's “Fire and Hemlock”. Both are fantasy-infused whimsical tales about growing up and finding your identity. The former one is even kind of about college life. 🙂
