I've been cosplaying as a self hosting sysadmin recently. I'm far from being confident in my setup enough to entrust it with my data but I'm looking forward to stop depending on a bunch of third parties.
I am deploying everything on NixOS so this is yet another learning curve but so far I like it. Don't know if my setup is the best way to go for now but I like having something akin to Terraform to configure my machines.

In self hosting there is no right or wrong. There is only "works for me" and "works for you". Other than that, have fun!

And that's why I don't expose anything in my network to the Internet. It either goes to a cloud server, or via Tailscale.
@badnetmask I had never heard of Tailscale before last week and now I am seeing it everywhere. I will give it a try.
