On our first full day on Skye, we eased ourselves in gently.

We elected for the Scorrybreac circuit at Portree, Skye's main settlement. For a short hike it offers fantastic views down Loch Portree and across the Sound of Raasay. Changing light conditions definitely helped.

Last evening from the moor above Roskhill.
Skye skies are extraordinary. The shape of the island is a series of hilly peninsulas which means the sea is never far away and the clouds come and go with the wind or lack of it.

Rain today, summer rain, summer sun too so a day of changes and alterations to what to wear. New waterproof trousers and new Wellington boots. Joy. A walk to the beach near us. It’s a route we suggest to our guests if they want a quiet walk away from the crowds. It’s Skye at its best. Sea and sky and a changing coast. Calm and curiously exciting.

I have no desire to be unyielding to human experience but I do note that the cliffs have a certain carefree charm about them. They never care about the right clothing. They are out in all weathers.
