I wrote an open letter to Matt Mullenweg; he'll probably never read it. Either way, time to burn that proverbial bridge.

Last word from me for a while on the WordPress / Automattic / WPEngine / ACF/SCF discussion, and how it intersects with software security, supply chains, and trustworthy computing.

The popular ACF plugin listing has been taken over by WordPress amid a legal dispute with WP Engine. WordPress replaced it with a “forked” version, named Secure Custom Fields, citing safety guidelines, and sparking controversy among the WordPress community.

In case you missed it yesterday, my co-maintainer/co-conspirator @alexgmin and I released https://pypi.org/project/django_wplogin/, a Django plugin to enhance the admin login page, inspired by wordpress.
WP Engine and Automattic Trade Cease-and-Desist Letters ↴
https://wpshout.com/wp-engine-and-automattic-trade-cease-and-desist-letters/
“Stunningly, #Automattic’s CEO Matthew #Mullenweg threatened that if WP Engine did not agree to pay Automattic – his for-profit entity – a very large sum of #money before his September 20th keynote address at the WordCamp US Convention, he was going to embark on a self-described “scorched earth nuclear approach” toward #WPEngine within the #WordPress community and beyond.”
The plot thickens. WP Engine has sued Matt Mullenweg and Automattic. WPE's X post states:
Matt Mullenweg and Automattic’s self-proclaimed scorched earth campaign against WP Engine has harmed not just our company, but the entire WordPress ecosystem. The symbiotic relationship between WordPress, its community and the businesses that invest millions to support WordPress users, and advance the ecosystem, is based on trust in the promises of openness and freedom.
Matt Mullenweg’s conduct over the last ten days has exposed significant conflicts of interests and governance issues that, if left unchecked, threaten to destroy that trust. WP Engine has no choice but to pursue these claims to protect its people, agency partners, customers, and the broader WordPress community. Like so many of you, we love WordPress and are committed to the stability and longevity of the community.

Many people are telling me to check out @ghost as an alternative to @WordPress.
So, I’m putting it out to all of you…
What are your thoughts on #Ghost? Will the current spat between #WordPress and #WPEngine give Ghost the opportunity to grow much bigger as an open source CMS?
For my hackathon project I did try to make CFA (Cat Factor Authentication, using your cat's microchip as a second factor) a thing 😆 The project did win a prize, but more for the experimentation then the actual result https://wpengine.com/blog/hackathon-december-2023/
